Sand and salt spreaders mount to the tailgate or cargo bed of a pickup, and most can carry salt, sand, or a mixture of both. For tight spots a truck can’t reach, a bucket can spread salt or sand in tighter off-road spaces like sidewalks.
On the material side, ice melt comes in several formulations and pack sizes — pelletized pet-safe products, calcium-blend melters rated down to -15°F, and beet-based pet-friendly blends in jugs, bags, and pails. Pick the rating that matches your coldest reality, and for the deepest cold a low-temperature blend earns its place. Equipment failure during a storm is the most expensive mistake you can make. Match the tool to the host machine before you buy.
For a truck, check the numbers first. Confirm with your owner’s manual, your supplier, and your service technician that you meet the GVWR, front axle, and rear axle towing and payload capacity to safely upfit your truck for snow and ice removal.
For skid steers and loaders, capacity-matching comes down to fit and flow. The attachment width should exceed your machine’s tracks or tires, and its capacity rating should align with your machine’s hydraulic flow or lifting capability.
