What do the colored handles mean? On aviation snips, the color tells you cut direction at a glance. Red is left cut, green is right cut, and yellow is straight. The Wiss M3R uses yellow handles for quick identification as the straight-cut tool.
What’s the heaviest gauge a standard aviation snip will cut? Standard aviation snips top out at 18 gauge low carbon steel. For heavier 16-gauge stock you step up to a bulldog snip. Pushing past the rated gauge damages the blades and the cut.
