Our History
For 80 years, Western Building Center has been a cornerstone of Montana's building industry
From a single cabinet shop in Kalispell to 12 stores across two states, our story is one of community, growth, and an unwavering commitment to the people we serve.
The Beginning
Les Kjos opens a cabinet and millwork shop in Kalispell, Montana — the foundation of what would become Western Building Center.
Flathead Valley Growth
The company expands operations to meet demand from families and builders throughout the Flathead Valley, establishing a reputation for quality materials and honest service.
Across Montana
Western Building Center grows beyond the Flathead Valley, opening stores in communities across western Montana to bring expert building supply service closer to more customers.
Do it Best Partnership
WBC joins the Do it Best dealer cooperative, combining the buying power of a national network with the personal service of a locally owned business.
Specialty Stores
The company adds specialty locations — Kalispell Rental Center for equipment and Polson Outdoor Equipment — extending service beyond traditional building supply.
Strategic Growth
WBC acquires JM Lumber in Great Falls (established 1923) and Pro X Home Center in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, expanding the family to serve even more communities.
12 Stores Strong
Western Building Center operates 12 stores across Montana and Idaho, serving homeowners, contractors, and builders with the same commitment to quality and service that started it all in 1946.
