Milgard V400 Tuscany Series Awning Window

The Milgard V400 Tuscany Series Awning Window combines California’s forced-entry security standards with Montana’s need for ventilation during rain. The SmartTouch® lock provides one-touch operation while meeting CA forced-entry standards, and the window is hinged at the top to deflect water — perfect for those spring downpours when you still need fresh air.

SmartTouch® Lock and Weather Performance

The SmartTouch® lock system uses one-touch operation — no cranks, no fussing. The hardware is color-matched to the interior frame, and the lock itself uses die-cast zinc construction. The Arthritis Foundation gave this hardware an Ease-of-Use Commendation — that’s not marketing fluff, that’s real-world recognition that the hardware actually works for people with limited hand strength.

The weather performance comes from the awning design itself. These windows are hinged at the top, allowing them to deflect water while providing ventilation during rain. The frame depth measures 3-1/4 inches, giving you enough structural beef to handle Montana wind loads. The standard configuration includes SunCoat® Low-E2 dual-pane glass with an advanced warm-edge spacer system.

Frame Options and Energy Performance

Frame options include Nail-On Frame, Block Frame, Sloped Sill Adapter, and Flush Fin (Z-bar). That’s the flexibility contractors need for different wall assemblies — whether you’re dealing with new construction or trying to retrofit into an existing opening. Custom sizes are available to the nearest 1/8 inch.

The energy specs matter more than the frame options. These windows are ENERGY STAR® qualified for all climate zones — that covers everything from the Flathead Valley to Great Falls. The standard glass package includes SunCoat® Low-E2 with argon gas fill. For enhanced thermal performance, the SunCoatMAX® Low-E upgrade provides better insulation — worth considering if the windows face north or if the homeowner runs the heat all winter.

Specialty glass options include Solar Bronze, Solar Gray, and various obscure patterns like Aquatex, Rain, Delta Frost, Satin Etch, Narrow Reed, P516, and Glue Chip. The obscure glass options work for bathrooms where privacy matters.

Installation Considerations

The V400 Tuscany is suitable for both New Construction and Replacement/Remodel projects. Installation follows AAMA-compliant instructions available through Milgard technical resources. Common applications include high placement on walls for privacy while maintaining ventilation, bathrooms and kitchens for moisture control, hard-to-reach areas where a handle-driven operator is easier than a sliding window, and combination units often paired above or below picture windows.

The folding nesting operators are color-matched to the interior frame — they fold flat when not in use, staying out of the way of blinds or curtains.

FAQ

How does the V400 Tuscany compare to the V300 Trinsic Series?

The V400 Tuscany uses a wider, traditional frame profile while the V300 Trinsic offers a slim, modern profile. The V400 provides equal sightlines while the V300 maximizes glass area. The V400 typically includes Glass Breakage coverage as standard in the Full Lifetime Warranty, while the V300 may require an upgrade.

What warranty coverage comes with these windows?

The Full Lifetime Warranty covers parts, labor, and glass breakage (standard for Tuscany Series). The warranty is transferable to subsequent homeowners for up to 10 years.

Are these windows suitable for Montana’s climate zones?

Yes, they’re ENERGY STAR® qualified for all climate zones and carry NFRC thermal performance ratings. The SunCoatMAX® upgrade provides enhanced thermal performance for extreme temperature locations.

What are the main complaints about this window series?

The wider frame limits glass surface area compared to slim-profile windows. If maximum glass area matters more than traditional aesthetics, look at the V300 Trinsic instead.
