Senco SN71P1 15 Degree 2-1/2" Coil Siding Nailer

The SN71P1 brings dual-collation compatibility and professional-grade power to siding installation at 5.58 pounds. Compatible with both wire-welded and plastic-collated nails, it solves the nail availability problem that plagues rural jobsites. Accepts 15° coil nails from 1-1/4” to 2-1/2” with 250-375 nail capacity — fewer reloads on long siding runs.

Skip it if you’re framing houses. This tool’s designed for siding, trim, and fencing. The 1-1/4 inch to 2-1/2 inch nail range won’t drive 3-1/2” framers.

The dual collation system changes the game for Montana contractors. Run wire-weld nails when they’re cheaper, switch to plastic when that’s what the yard has. No more driving 66 miles to Kalispell because Eureka’s out of your specific collation type.

Tool-free depth-of-drive adjustment matters when you’re switching between fiber-cement and cedar shingles. EZ-Load design with clear door for visual reload cues means you see when you’re running low before that last nail jams.

Weight and Ergonomics

At 5.58 pounds, it’s lighter than most coil nailers that handle 2-1/2” fasteners. The ergonomic over-molded grip designed to reduce operator fatigue and vibration actually works — your wrist notices the difference after 500 square feet of HardiePlank.

Rotatable aluminum rafter hook keeps the tool accessible without drilling belt clips. Steel magazine platform takes the abuse of jobsite drops better than plastic magazines.

Debris shield protects both the work surface and the operator — critical when you’re working close to windows and finished surfaces. Nobody wants to explain nail dings in brand-new vinyl siding.

Applications and Compatibility

Primary applications include siding (fiber-cement, vinyl, wood, cedar, LP), exterior trim, fencing, and wood shingles. Secondary uses cover decking, crate construction, box assembly, and sheathing.

Compatible fasteners:

  • 15° Smooth-Shank Coil Nails (Plastic collation): 1-1/2 to 2-1/4 inches
  • 15° Ring-Shank Coil Nails (Wire collation): 1-1/4 to 2-1/4 inches
  • Shank sizes: 0.082” to 0.092”

Runs on standard air compressors capable of 4.6 SCFM at 90 PSI. Most contractor-grade compressors handle this without breaking a sweat.

Maintenance Requirements

Connect to a 3/8 inch NPT air hose with regulated pressure between 70-120 PSI. Requires periodic lubrication with pneumatic tool oil (2-3 drops before use) — skip this and watch your tool die young.

Long-term maintenance includes regular inspection of driver blade and magazine springs; cleaning debris from the nose. Manual (SN71P1_Ops_9_24_21.pdf) and Parts Chart available via Senco official website.

FAQs

Q: Can I use this nailer for framing? A: No. The 1-1/4 inch to 2-1/2 inch nail range won’t handle framing nails. This tool is specifically designed for siding, exterior trim, fencing, and wood shingles.

Q: What’s the real advantage of dual collation? A: Nail availability. Compatible with both wire-welded and plastic-collated nails means you can buy whatever’s in stock locally. In rural Montana, that flexibility saves 100-mile round trips.

Q: How much air does it actually need? A: 4.6 SCFM at operating pressure. Standard air compressors capable of 4.6 SCFM at 90 PSI run it fine. Most 6-gallon pancake compressors keep up for trim work, though continuous siding might need a bigger tank.

Q: Is the 5-year warranty worth anything? A: 5-Year Limited Warranty covering defects in material and workmanship is solid for a pneumatic nailer. You’ll need to return to a SENCO Authorized Warranty Service Centre with proof of purchase, so check where the nearest one is before buying.

Q: Does the selectable trigger really matter? A: Easy switching between bump-fire and sequential modes matters for safety and speed. Sequential for precise placement near windows. Contact mode when you’re running long stretches of siding.
