NCP Industries ADORN Stone Outlet Boxes

The ADORN Stone Outlet Box measures 6” W x 7” H x 1.75” T and solves a real problem — how to integrate electrical outlets into stone veneer siding without wrestling with mortar. This screw-on format eliminates messy mortar and trowel work, which matters when you’re trying to maintain a clean jobsite or working against Montana’s short construction season.

Technical Performance for Montana Conditions

The numbers that matter for Montana’s freeze-thaw cycles tell the story. With compressive strength exceeding 2100 psi (ASTM C1670), these outlet boxes handle the expansion and contraction that destroys lesser products. The freeze-thaw durability shows less than 3% weight loss (ASTM C1670) — critical when you’re dealing with 100+ freeze-thaw cycles per year in most Montana valleys.

The fire rating — UL Classification R8022 with zero flame-spread and zero smoke developed — matters in wildfire country. Every component that won’t burn is one less worry during fire season.

Installation Reality Check

Installation requires positioning the box level and fastening directly to substrate with at least three screws into a stud or solid backing. No starter strip. No mortar mixing. No waiting for cure times. Use fasteners with head diameter ≥3/8”, shank ≥1/8”, and length 1.5-1.75” — standard coated exterior screws for wood or Tapcon for concrete.

The substrate compatibility covers what Montana contractors actually build with. Works over wood studs, foam-board insulation, stucco, ICF, and concrete foundations. For sheathing applications, you need minimum 7/16” OSB or 1/2” plywood with studs 16” OC, plus a Water-Resistive Barrier for exterior use.

Cut pieces as needed using a high-quality concrete or diamond blade — standard masonry blade on your circular saw handles it. For high-moisture areas or exterior installations, seal with a concrete sealer if desired.

The CaptureCrete® Angle

CaptureCrete® technology allows the concrete to actively absorb CO2, with each square foot capturing approximately 1.5 lbs of CO2. Does this matter to your average contractor? Only if LEED credits affect the bid. The technology supports LEED credit accumulation and eligibility for carbon-credit programs. For commercial projects chasing sustainability certifications, this becomes a selling point.

The environmental story goes deeper than marketing. Made from recycled materials with legitimate third-party verification. ICC-ES Evaluation Service Report ESR-1942 backs up the performance claims.

Who Should Consider This

Worth it for contractors installing ADORN stone veneer systems who want clean, fast electrical box integration. Specifically designed for ADORN Mortarless Stone Veneer panels, particularly the Ledge Stone series. The mortarless installation saves labor hours and eliminates the weather delays that come with mortar work.

Skip it if you’re using traditional mortar-set stone — this system only makes sense with mechanically-fastened veneer panels. Also skip if your stone veneer doesn’t require outlet integration or if standard electrical boxes with extension rings meet code for your application.

The 30-year limited manufacturer warranty covers manufacturing defects. In Montana’s harsh climate, that warranty length suggests confidence in freeze-thaw performance.

Available Options

Colors include Gray, Alder, Birch, Brown, and Tan — enough range to match most ADORN stone veneer color palettes without looking like an obvious add-on.

FAQ

What makes these different from standard outlet boxes? These are 1.75” thick concrete boxes designed to integrate with stone veneer panels using a mortarless, screw-on installation. Standard outlet boxes require mortar work or don’t sit flush with thick veneer panels.

Do these meet electrical code requirements? The boxes carry ICC-ES Evaluation Service Report ESR-1942, which indicates code compliance evaluation. Always verify with local inspectors for specific jurisdiction requirements.

Can these work with other stone veneer brands? These are designed specifically for ADORN Mortarless Stone Veneer panels. While the screw-mount system might work with other mechanically-fastened veneers, they’re engineered for ADORN’s panel thickness and installation method.

How do they handle Montana’s temperature extremes? The freeze-thaw testing shows less than 3% weight loss per ASTM C1670, and compressive strength exceeds 2100 psi. Those numbers indicate the concrete mix can handle repeated freezing and thawing without spalling or cracking.

What about moisture protection? The high-strength concrete uses Portland-cement mortar, lightweight aggregates, and mineral-oxide pigments. For high-moisture areas, apply a concrete sealer — same as you’d do with any exterior concrete product.
