GlobalPointe PR11SUG - 1-Panel Shaker Barn Door (Primed)

GlobalPointe’s PR11SUG barn door gets the engineering right where others fail. Engineered LVL stiles and rails to resist shrinking, swelling, and splitting. That’s the difference between a door that slides smoothly for years and one that sticks, warps, and generates callbacks after Montana’s first real winter.

The factory-bonded EasyPrep primer for easy final finishing saves hours of prep work on-site. For contractors dealing with Montana’s short construction season, that matters. 5-year limited warranty from the date of initial purchase backs up the construction quality.

LVL Core Construction Beats Traditional Wood

Stile and Rail with Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) cores for stability and warp resistance — that’s the core advantage here. Traditional solid wood cores move with humidity changes. LVL core construction outperforms traditional solid wood cores in stability and resistance to environmental warping.

The construction specifics tell the real story:

ComponentDimension
Stiles4-1/2”
Top rail5-1/2”
Bottom rail11-15/16”

Those generous rail dimensions combined with LVL cores create dimensional stability that holds up through Montana’s temperature swings. MDF skins and panels for a smooth finish provide the perfect substrate for paint.

Dimensions and U-Groove Details

U-Groove (rounded bottom groove) instead of standard V-groove creates a softer shadow line. The ‘UG’ (U-Groove) offers a more rounded, distinct shadow line compared to standard flat or V-groove options. It’s a subtle detail that contractors who care about finished appearance will appreciate.

Size options cover standard barn door applications:

DimensionOptions
Thickness1-3/8”, 1-3/4”
Heights80”, 84” (7/0), 96” (8/0)
Widths20” (2/0), 24” (2/4), 28” (2/6), 30” (2/8), 32” (3/0), 36” (3/6), 42”

The PR11SUG is the U-Groove variant of the standard PR11S Shaker door. Same LVL construction, different panel detail.

Installation Requirements

Here’s where contractors need to pay attention. Must finish all six sides (front, back, top, bottom, and edges) with solvent-borne or water-borne polyurethane before final installation to maintain warranty. Skip this step and the warranty’s void.

The prep process:

  • Sand all surfaces with 150-180 grit sandpaper before finishing. Clean thoroughly.
  • Apply polyurethane to all six sides
  • Features a floor guide groove for sliding track systems

Compatible with GlobalPointe Barn Door Hardware Kits. The door works with their complete hardware lineup: GlobalPointe Barn Door Hardware Kits (Track, Rollers, Stops, Anti-jump blocks), Bypass Kits for double-door configurations, Soft-Close Kits.

FAQ

What makes the LVL core better than solid wood for barn doors?

LVL cores resist the warping that kills barn doors in Montana. Engineered LVL stiles and rails to resist shrinking, swelling, and splitting. Traditional wood cores move with seasonal humidity changes. LVL stays stable.

Does the door come pre-drilled for hardware?

No drilling indicated in specifications. Compatible with GlobalPointe Barn Door Hardware Kits but mounting prep falls to the installer.

Can I stain this door instead of painting?

No. MDF skins and panels with factory-bonded EasyPrep primer make this a paint-only door. For stain-grade, choose their knotty alder models.

What’s the difference between U-groove and V-groove?

U-Groove (rounded bottom groove) instead of standard V-groove creates a softer, more contemporary shadow line. V-groove has sharp edges. U-groove rounds them off.

How thick should I order for residential use?

The 1-3/8” thickness handles most residential applications. Go 1-3/4” for commercial or high-traffic areas where extra mass helps with smooth operation and durability.
