Trex Enhance: The Working Contractor's Composite

Trex Enhance fills the gap between pressure-treated lumber and premium composites. It’s the line that gets the job done without breaking the budget — and now includes heat-mitigating technology that actually works.

The Plug System That Changes Everything

Trex Enhance Plugs transform how you finish a deck. The 416-pack covers approximately 936 square feet of decking, giving you the hidden-fastener look on border boards, stairs, and fascia where traditional clips can’t reach.

These aren’t generic plastic caps. They’re injection-molded from identical shellstock, embossing, and pigments to Trex Enhance decking. The color match is perfect because it’s the same material. UV-stable composite prevents fading over time, unlike those cheap plastic plugs that turn white after two Montana summers.

The installation requires specific tools — the Trex Enhance Decking Plug System Tool Kit for decking or the Trex Hideaway Fascia Plug Tool Kit for fascia. You’ll also need the right screws: 2-inch plug screws for deck boards or 1-3/4 inch for fascia. The process is straightforward: drill the pilot hole with the counterbore tool, drive the screw, then tap the plug flush. The ribbed edges engage the hole sides for a secure fit.

Users rate the system 4.1 out of 5 stars, appreciating the seamless color match and professional finish. When you’re charging for a quality deck installation, those visible screw heads on the picture frame and stairs matter. This system eliminates them.

Heat-Mitigating Technology Worth Having

The SunComfortable technology in newer Enhance colors keeps boards cooler under the sun. This matters at Montana elevations where UV intensity runs 25% higher than sea level. Dark composite decking can hit 140°F surface temperature in July. Any technology that drops that number improves the deck experience.

The Enhance line uses approximately 95% recycled materials, matching Trex’s sustainability story across their product lines. But recycled content alone doesn’t sell decks. The scalloped profile design does — it cuts weight without sacrificing the 25-year Limited Residential Warranty.

Smart Engineering, Not Corner-Cutting

The scalloped profile catches flak from contractors who think it’s cheap. Look closer. The engineering reduces material where it’s not needed, drops the weight for easier handling, and keeps the price competitive with treated lumber. A 16-foot Enhance board is noticeably lighter than solid-profile competitors. Your back notices at the end of a long day.

Color options include the Basics collection with Tide Pool (misty gray) and the Naturals collection featuring Honey Grove (light honey brown), Rocky Harbor, and Toasted Sand. The Naturals cost more but deliver better wood-tone aesthetics. Both collections get the same warranty and recycled content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use regular wood screws with these plugs? A: No. The system is specifically designed for use with Trex Enhance plug screws. Using the wrong fasteners voids your warranty and creates an inferior connection.

Q: Do these plugs work with other Trex lines? A: These plugs are specific to the Enhance line. Different plugs are required for Trex Transcend, Select, or Signature lines. The material composition and color matching are line-specific.

Q: How many plugs do I need for a typical deck? A: One 416-pack covers approximately 936 square feet of decking based on typical spacing. Factor in your border boards, stair treads, and any picture framing for accurate counts.

Q: Will the plugs fade differently than the decking? A: No. The plugs use identical shellstock and pigments to the decking, ensuring they age and weather at the same rate as your boards.
