TimberTech Fulton Steel Railing: Pre-assembled Panels for Fast Installation

TimberTech Fulton Steel Railing delivers a pre-assembled panelized system that cuts installation time compared to traditional baluster-by-baluster assembly. The galvanized steel construction with architecture-grade powder coating targets contractors who want the strength of steel without the maintenance headaches of painted metal railings.

Steel Construction Beats Aluminum on Strength and Price

High-strength galvanized steel forms the backbone of Fulton Rail. The architecture-grade powder coating provides 50% better corrosion resistance than typical paint processes — crucial for Montana’s temperature swings and moisture cycles. Unlike aluminum systems that can flex under load, steel stays rigid.

Steel offers higher tensile strength and better fire resistance than aluminum alternatives, while being generally more affordable. That fire resistance matters in Montana’s wildfire-prone regions. The system is classified as non-combustible material, meeting stricter building requirements in WUI zones.

The black powder coating holds up better than field-painted railings that need touch-ups every few years. Maintenance involves just soap and water cleaning. When scratches happen, Rust-Oleum Flat Black Enamel provides the recommended touch-up.

Pre-assembled Panels Speed Installation

Each 6’ x 36” level panel comes pre-assembled with top rail, bottom rail, and balusters. The actual panel length measures 69.5 inches, designed for 6’ center-to-center post spacing. No more fastening individual balusters or worrying about spacing consistency.

Installation uses Level Bracket Kits on posts with panels secured via provided hardware. The system works with TimberTech’s 2” x 2” and 3” x 3” Square Steel Posts. Recommended attachment uses 7/16” through-bolts with washers and nuts for a rock-solid connection.

The Drink Rail Kit allows installation of a deck board as the top rail — perfect for matching the deck surface or creating a wider cap. Gate Kits come in both 36” and 42” heights for complete system coordination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does Fulton Rail compare to composite railing systems?

A: Fulton Rail provides a slimmer profile and clearer views than most composite systems. It requires less maintenance than wood and is more rigid than many composite options. The steel construction won’t sag or flex like some composites can over time.

Q: What’s included with each panel?

A: Each panel comes pre-assembled with handrail, balusters, and bottom rail. You’ll need to order posts, brackets, and any accessories like caps or gates separately.

Q: Can I cut these panels to fit shorter runs?

A: Metal cutting saws can trim panels if necessary, but you must touch up cut ends with black enamel to prevent corrosion at exposed steel.

Q: What accessories work with Fulton Rail?

A: The system accepts TimberTech Accent Lights, Fulton Drink Rail, Fulton Gate Kits, Foot Block Kits, and Impression Rail Express Fascia Brackets. Additional accessories include aluminum post caps and skirts, plus swivel brackets for stair or angled connections.
