Regal ideas Crystal Rail® Frameless Glass Railing System

Crystal Rail delivers frameless glass railing with 98% iron-free tempered glass panels and integrated LED lighting built directly into the mounting brackets. The system eliminates traditional posts and rails between panels for completely unobstructed views — a genuine advancement over standard glass railings that still require visible frames.

At 10mm thickness with 98% iron-free composition, these panels solve the green tint problem that plagues standard tempered glass. Unlike metal, wood, or cable railings, Crystal Rail offers a completely unobstructed view without horizontal or vertical obstructions. The frameless design matters most on Montana decks where mountain views justify the investment.

Technical Specifications

The system uses 10mm ‘No-Iron’ tempered safety glass achieving 98% iron-free composition. Standard tempered glass contains iron impurities that create a noticeable green edge, especially visible when looking through multiple panels or at an angle. Crystal Rail’s ultra-clear glass eliminates that tint entirely.

The mounting brackets and posts use high-grade aluminum with satin finish, paired with stainless steel fasteners and aluminum base plates. This material selection handles Montana’s freeze-thaw cycles without the corrosion issues that destroy lesser systems.

LED Integration Details

The integrated LED system provides ambient safety lighting directly through the glass edges. Each LED mount uses 3W bulbs, with control packs supporting up to 40 mounts across 20 glass sections. The 78-inch connector cords provide plug-and-play installation with no splicing or hard-wiring required.

Remote-controlled lighting system with dimming and color options transforms deck functionality after dark. Montana’s early winter sunsets make this feature particularly valuable from November through February when daylight ends before 5 PM.

Installation Requirements

Crystal Rail demands precise deck preparation. Structural mounting requires 3/8” pre-drilled holes, while LED wiring needs 1/2” holes through the deck surface. These aren’t suggestions — they’re requirements for proper load distribution and wire routing.

Installation ParameterSpecification
Structural Mounting Holes3/8” pre-drilled
LED Wiring Holes1/2” diameter
Panel Gap Range1.25” minimum to 3.75” maximum
Bracket Offset4” minimum to 14” maximum from glass edge

Additional deck blocking/support may be required depending on existing framing. Standard joist spacing won’t always align with optimal glass mounting points. Plan for supplemental blocking before starting installation.

Required tools include 5-6 inch structural mounting bolts, Regal 2-part epoxy and glue dispenser for securing glass, vacuum cups for handling panels, and hex keys (2.5mm and 4mm) for set-screw adjustments. The vacuum cups aren’t optional — 10mm tempered glass panels are heavy and unforgiving.

Warranty Coverage

Residential installations receive 20-year prorated structural warranty, 10-year prorated paint finish warranty, and 1-year LED/glass warranty. Commercial projects get the same 20-year structural coverage but only 5 years on paint finish.

The 1-year LED warranty seems short for a premium system. Plan for eventual LED replacement access when designing deck framing.

FAQ

What makes Crystal Rail glass different from standard tempered glass railings? The 98% iron-free composition eliminates the green tint common in standard 10mm tempered glass. Crystal Rail uses ‘No-Iron’ glass providing superior clarity, especially noticeable when viewing through multiple panels or at angles.

How much electrical capacity do I need for the LED system? Each LED mount uses 3W, with control packs supporting up to 40 mounts (20 glass sections). A full 20-section installation draws 120W maximum — less than two standard light bulbs.

What panel sizes work for stairs versus patios? Patio panels come in seven widths from 24” to 60”. Stair panels offer three specific widths: 29.5”, 40”, and 50.5”. The stair sizing accounts for typical tread depths and code-compliant angles.

Do I need special tools for installation? Yes — vacuum cups for handling panels, Regal 2-part epoxy and glue dispenser, hex keys (2.5mm and 4mm), plus standard drill bits for 3/8” structural holes and 1/2” wiring holes. Don’t attempt installation without proper glass handling equipment.
