Command Adhesive Hanging Strip Refill Assortment

Command refill strips solve the mounting problem that nails and screws can’t touch — clean removal without wall damage. The 16-pack includes 8 small strips (0.5 lb capacity), 4 medium strips (3 lb capacity), and 4 large strips (5 lb capacity), giving contractors a range of weight ratings for different applications.

This kit shines for contractors working in rental properties, staging homes for sale, and anywhere wall damage means callbacks.

Weight Ratings and Applications

Small strips hold up to 0.5 lb (225 g), medium strips handle up to 3 lb (1.36 kg), and large strips support up to 5 lb (2.26 kg). Those aren’t suggestions — they’re tested limits. Exceed them and the strips fail, potentially taking paint with them.

The strips work on painted walls, finished wood, tile, metal, and glass. That covers most interior surfaces contractors encounter. Indoor use only — these aren’t rated for Montana’s temperature swings on exterior applications.

Compatible products include Command Small, Medium, and Large Indoor Hooks, Command Soap Dishes, and Command Broom and Mop Grippers. The refill nature means replacing strips on existing Command products without buying whole new units.

Installation Process and Time Requirements

Clean surface with rubbing alcohol only (no household cleaners), remove red liner and press adhesive to the back of the hook/product, remove black liner and press hook/product firmly to the surface for 30 seconds, then wait 1 hour for the bond to set before hanging items.

That hour wait time matters. Rush it and the strips won’t achieve full strength. The rubbing alcohol requirement isn’t negotiable either — household cleaners leave residue that prevents proper adhesion.

Removal process: stretch the strip slowly straight down against the wall to release. Pull at an angle or yank quickly and you risk paint damage. The stretch-release mechanism works when used correctly.

When Command Strips Make Sense

Worth it for temporary installations where wall repair isn’t an option. Rental properties, seasonal decorations, and client spaces where drilling holes means losing deposits or creating callbacks. The damage-free removal justifies the premium over double-sided tape.

Not ideal for permanent installations where screws provide better long-term value. The adhesive can fail over time, especially in areas with temperature fluctuation near exterior walls. For anything over 5 pounds or critical applications, traditional mounting hardware remains the professional choice.

Users note potential issues with adhesive strength over time, especially on warped or uneven surfaces, and the risk of minor wall damage or paint peeling upon removal if weight limits are exceeded. Temperature cycling weakens the bond — strips near exterior walls or in unconditioned spaces fail faster than those in stable interior environments.

FAQ

Do Command strips work on textured walls? Command strips work on painted walls, finished wood, tile, metal, and glass. Heavily textured surfaces reduce contact area and holding strength. Smooth or lightly textured surfaces provide best results.

What’s the actual wait time before hanging items? Wait time is 1 hour for the bond to set before hanging items. This allows the adhesive to achieve full strength. Rushing this step causes premature failure.

Can these strips be reused? No. Once stretched for removal, the adhesive mechanism is spent. That’s why they sell refill packs — the hooks and accessories get reused with fresh strips.

Are Command strips actually damage-free? Risk of minor wall damage or paint peeling exists if weight limits are exceeded or if used improperly. Follow weight limits and removal instructions for damage-free results. Quality of paint and wall preparation also affects outcomes.
